DESCRIPTION:
In 1994 the Brisbane City Council decided to upgrade and improve the public pool facilities at the heritage listed Centenary Swimming Pool complex.

The Council called for ideas from the business community and Stockwell proposed a complete refurbishment and further development on a dollar to dollar basis in exchange for a long term lease.

The existing pools, changerooms and old restaurant were refurbished and a further 1,000m² of leasable commercial floor space was constructed. Council stipulated that the free form art deco style building had to be preserved and the new development was designed around the old.

Stockwell put together a financial model to solve the ongoing cash and maintenance problems. This proved challenging as banks had a problem coming to terms with long term leasehold developments.

ICE WORLD
Completed 1995

2304 Sandgate Road, Boondall Qld
VALUE:   $1.7 million
PROJECT TYPE: Leisure
JOB:   Construct
CLIENT:  Queensland Ice Skating Association
DESCRIPTION:
Stockwell were invited by Queensland Ice Skating Association to tender for a new Olympic size skating rink at Boondall. Stockwell were selected as the preferred builder and were able to negotiate both a price and a design with the Client.
Due to the nature of the building, the thermal qualities of the materials used had to be carefully considered. The design also had to allow for damage to surfaces from skate blades and ice hockey pucks. Integral to the design process was the fact that there was to be no condensation or drips inside the building.
