Boggo Road Village has officially opened, marking an important step in the transformation of one of Brisbane’s key inner-city locations.
The centre opened on 19 August 2026, with Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner, Stockwell Managing Director Mark Stockwell and Betty Stockwell, a local resident and Mark’s 95-year-old aunt.
More than a place to shop, Boggo Road Village plays a key role in placemaking. It creates a community hub where residents, workers, students and commuters can gather, connect and access the amenities and services they need each day.
At the heart of an important innovation precinct
Boggo Road Village forms part of the Boggo Road Innovation Junction, known as BRIJ—a major health, science, research and innovation precinct centred around the Princess Alexandra Hospital, Translational Research Institute, Ecosciences Precinct, the University of Queensland and other research institutions.
Located at 29 Boggo Road, Dutton Park, the centre serves the thousands of people who live, work, study and visit the precinct each day. Its community also extends across surrounding suburbs including Woolloongabba, Highgate Hill, Annerley and South Brisbane.

The centre’s identity is closely connected to the history of the former Boggo Road Gaol.
That connection can be seen throughout the precinct, including its links to Boggo Road Park, where visitors can pause beside the historic gaol walls. Halliday’s Lane and Tripod Lane provide two distinctive destinations that share the stories and characters associated with the site.
Halliday’s Lane recalls Slim Halliday, known as the “Houdini of Boggo Road” for his repeated escape attempts. Tripod Lane recognises Tripod, the three-legged cat that became a much-loved mascot of Boggo Road Gaol.
